Technological? You sure?

It’s quite amazing how education institutes brand themselves as world class and aspiring in technological advances when simple errors on their online portal keeps cropping up. And this is not the first rant and complain about it OK? I’m probably just one of the few who bothers to rant because I’m bored of studying and I’m pissed.

 

I shan’t name any school here, but it’s quite obvious which one I’m talking about. *duh right*

 

Anyways, so I required to send out a mass email to all my coursemates in a particular course. It’s not even a big course where the entire freaking cohort takes it (and considering the fact that our cohort ain’t that big after all). It’s only a class of 56 if I didn’t count wrongly.

 

So, on standard operating procedures, what would you have done? EXACTLY THE SAME WHAT I DID…

 

Head to the online portal …

 

And naturally, you’ll select ALL STUDENT USERS right? Since you’re intending to send to all students (I suppose they made it seem so idiot proof that ‘oh even if your cohort has a billion people we will still be able to support it and send the email out!)

 

And it went through to the next page!

 

 

So naturally, I wrote my email. Crafted it out and added in all the relevant details, double checked a few times (I don’t want to embarrass myself or offend anyone accidentally, especially since we’re going to be in the same media industry next time :P )

 

And, it sent out!

 

I even got a confirmation report saying that the emails have been sent out to so and so, so and so, so and so… one whole list of @e.***.edu.sg addresses and @***.edu.sg addresses.

 

But after 10 minutes, I discovered the email was not appearing in my inbox (I had cc-ed a copy to myself). So I logged into the Webmail, and guess what I found…

 

 

A delivery failure message from the school’s postmaster account…

 

IN MY JUNK MAILBOX!!!

 

THE SCHOOL DETECTS EMAILS FROM ITS OWN POSTMASTER AS JUNK! FTW!

 

I thought some of us had full mailboxes so SOME emails bounced. But no. Wonderful news…

 

And the list goes on and on and on. For those of you who can’t see, it says THIS MESSAGE HAS TOO MANY RECIPIENTS. PLEASE TRY TO RESEND IT WITH FEWER RECIPIENTS.

 

SO WHY ON EARTH DID YOU PUT THE ‘ALL STUDENT USERS’ OPTION RIGHT AT THE START OF YOUR FREAKING ONLINE PORTAL!? I had to retype the email, re-craft everything, and re-proof-read everything before sending it out. WHY? ALL BECAUSE OF YOUR FREAKING SERVER THAT CANNOT EVEN HANDLE 56 EMAIL ADDRESSES!?

 

So I sent another one out. This time, using a trustworthy more reliable one called Gmail.

 

I’m not pissed at my coursemates (of course not!). I’m just frustrated and ranting over the online portal and its nonsense. But what I’m peeved at is rather the stupidity of this online portal which contradicts itself, and of course, the miraculous server which detects its own organisation’s mail as SPAM. Well done.

 

So much for being a technological school eh?

I know to some of you this is just another peanut issue and a minute one. I know. It’s a small issue. But it just came at the wrong time. When I have info overload from cramping modules the entire day into my brain, and a tiring day at that. So, yeah. I’m just whining and ranting (well, it’s called RANTS of a shutterbug right) HAHA. OK not funny. Back to studies…
