This is probably a tad slow, but I just discovered this absurb thread online this morning at work. For those who are still wondering what the entire saga is about, basically a girl called Samantha (God knows if it’s her real name) called into the morning talkshow “The Married Men” on 91.3 FM a couple of days ago, criticizing heartlanders going over to her estate (Holland V).
Samantha argued that heartlanders are spoiling the peace of Holland Village (a busy and popular enclave in Singapore) by shouting and making a din there, as well as a fool of themselves, and that they should just “stay around in their heartlands and not come to Holland V”.
Here’s the radio broadcast:
It is a really absurb conversation to start, not to mention it being aired over national radio. I’m sure it must have offended a lot of people from the heartlands and residents from Holland V probably are ashamed of her too. I stay in the heartlands too, but I don’t see the extreme exquisiteness of Holland V to be accorded such a remark by Samantha.
So 91.3 allowed heartlanders to call in and defend themselves, and Maddy from Bedok called:
Maddy from Bedok defends heartlanders from Samantha.

After a huge commotion, Samantha finally apologized, or so to speak, said a mere ‘sorry for their feelings’, which I personally felt was too sarcastic and not sincere at all.
Personally, I feel Samantha needs to reflect on what she has done, and at the same time, install a filter into her brain to prevent herself from causing a nuisance and a disturbance to others. She is extremely insensitive and is living in a world of her own ego, not to mention the fact that she has offended probably a majority of the population living in the heartlands. What is wrong with living in the heartlands? Yes, so Holland V is ‘unique’ because it has been blocked up and converted into a leisure and recreational area for people to chill. Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything that makes it ‘extra cultured’ compared to Bedok or AMK or Toa Payoh. It’s still a part of Singapore – it’s still a neighbourhood where people live their lives the same way as those in the heartlands do.
Honestly, I think no matter how many times Samantha apologizes to the public, her name has been defamed. It’s fortunate for her that her contact details are not revealed, or she’ll be getting a lot of ‘love letters’ and ‘love visits’ from people here.
