The world acclaimed Broadway musical – Wicked, is currently in town running shows at the Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre. I am not a very “theatrical” person who catches every musical that rolls into town, but was persuaded and convinced by Kai to catch this performance yesterday. It was her second time watching, and my first, and I must say it was really a good performance (coming from one who doesn’t really appreciate musicals, it probably means it’s damn bloody good.)
According to various online synopsis and to those who don’t really know the background of the musical, Wicked is based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and told from the perspective of Elphaba, the misunderstood girl with the emerald-green skin, and Galinda (who was also known as Glinda later in the show), the beautiful, ambitious, and blond witch. The story revolves around these two unlikely friends who turned out to be opposite polar sides of evil and good, struggling through different personalities and viewpoints, and fighting over the same love object (-.-).
I shan’t spoil too much for you. But I must say it definitely is worth a catch. The Wicked song of Defying Gravity (pun intended) has been looping itself in my mind since yesterday.
Wicked will make its final run this coming Sunday, 22 April 2012 at Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre. Check their website for ongoing promotions, or head down now if you haven’t watched it!
